When Bitcoin (btc) started I ignored it and hence passed up the opportunity to be a multimillionaire. I joined the party late and with my current high-end computer it was still not enough to mine btc at a profitable level.
So I switched to next best cryptocurrency: Litecoin (ltc). Again I mined it for a short time and saw that my computing power was not enough to generate a serious return on electricity used vs ltc earned.
So I started looking for a new one in the sea of emerging cryptos
